Losing weight is as simple as eating less and exercising more. Here are some weight loss tips and tricks to make portion control easier.
1. Cut Your Food in Half: I always ate 2-3 slices of a large pizza. If I had any less, I would still be hungry. One large pan pizza slice is usually around 300 calories each! That is crazy!
Now, before we start eating I cut every slice of pizza in half. If it’s a real giant piece I cut it into thirds. I still eat 2-3 slices, but it’s really only a total of 1 to 1.5 whole slices. That’s is 1/3 less calories! I do it for basically anything I order; calzones, cheesy bread, burgers, sandwiches, burritos etc., restaurant portions are just so huge!
I know you’re probably thinking this will not work, I didn’t think it would work at first either. But, it works for both my husband and myself. It tricks my brain into thinking you’re eating the same amount. 3 slices is 3 slices, right?
2. Use Smaller Plates: Most households have multiple sized plates and always use the biggest. We tend to fill our plate/bowl no matter the size.
If you start using smaller plates and still fill it, it is automatically less food than if you used a larger plate. Even if you fill your smaller size plate two times, it is still less food than if you fill your larger plate two times. Less food, smaller portions without even thinking about it.
My parents took this advice and put the large plates in the basement so they wouldn’t be tempted to use them. My dad has lost 50 pounds and my mom has lost 30.
3. DRINK WATER!: I drink only water and the occasional alcoholic beverage. To lose weight, most women are allotted only 1,200-1,500 calories a day. That’s enough for three portioned meals and a snack. You will not have room to drink your calories.
One can of soda is 100 or more calories, and most are closer to 150. That’s 1/12 of your daily calories! It is just not worth it.
Another DRINK WATER tip is to have one to two glasses before meals. The water will fill your stomach and you will feel fuller quicker.
